RACISM AND DISCRIMINATION STILL EXISTS!

September 19, 2014 at 4:57 Pm. I walked into Follia bridal in White Plains NY. My intentions where to simply admire the gowns. I was considering buying one for my 21st birthday.

I asked the associate if I can be sized. She told me that I had to choose a dress first. Then she will size me when she order the dress. I continued to browse when the same women approached me and said, "You have to make an appointment." I replied, “Excuse me?" She continued, “You have to have an appointment to try on and get sized for dresses" "Oh, OK I will keep that in-mind. But at this moment, I am just looking" "Didn't you look already?" At this point I was confused. "Did I do something wrong?" "No but you looked already and you need an appointment." Her body language and tone where suggesting that she wanted me to leave.

I left infuriated and puzzled. It only took me moments to realize why she didn't want me in the store. I went in to the store and demanded to talk to a manger. I explained to him that I was felt extremely intolerable and I was indirectly kick out the store because I am a young African American. I also explained that I made it a priority not to mess up anything because I have a great sense of empathy.

I strongly believe that if I was older and a different race I would not had to experience the disrespect and belittlement. I do not appreciate someone making me feel "less than" because of my age and race.
