H.E. Butt Grocery Company is a private food retailer that serves southern and central Texas. The company owns more than 300 supermarkets, including a growing number of large (70,000-plus square feet) gourmet Central Market stores in major metropolitan areas and more than 80 smaller (less than 30,000 square feet) Pantry Foods stores, often in more rural areas. H.E. Butt also has one store in Louisiana and over 20 upscale and discount stores in Mexico. The company processes much of its own bread, dairy products, meat and tortillas. The company is owned by the Butt family, which founded H.E. Butt in Kerrville, Texas, in 1905. H.E. Butt Grocery Company maintains a location in San Antonio.
