General Info

The Detroit Zoo has 125 acres of naturalistic habitats for more than 2,100 animals from aardvarks to zebras and features award-winning attractions such as the National Amphibian Conservation Center, Great Apes of Harambee and Arctic Ring of Life. The Devereaux Tiger Forest occupies 1 acre in the Detroit Zoo?s Asian Forest across from the Holtzman Wildlife Foundation Red Panda Forest. The space has been reimagined to closely mirror the tigers? native landscape of far eastern Russia with naturalistic elements important to tigers, including elevated vantage points, open spaces, wooded areas, pools, a waterfall and a ?catnap? cave. The habitat offers multiple observation areas for guests, including expansive views through 85 feet of acrylic windows. A Land Rover intersects the acrylic window, with its hood inside the tiger habitat and the driver?s side in the public area, providing opportunities for close-up views ? and amazing photo opportunities ? of the tigers when they lounge on the hood of the vehicle, which will be heated in the winter. Due to the current public health crisis, Detroit Zoo guests are currently required to make a reservation at detroitzoo.org/reservations prior to their visit.

I'm not a big fan of zoos in general. The living conditions could be better. Like another person said theres a huge lack of shade. At least make it comfortable to the animals if your going to lock them up..

VERY HAPPY ZOO MEMBER

MY FAMILY AND I BELONG TO THE ZOO AS MEMBERS AND HAVE FOR YEARS. WE LOVE THE ACTIVITIES THEY HAVE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND THE EVENTS THEY HAVE FOR MEMBERS AND ALSO FOR NON-MEMBERS. THE ZOO IS ALWAYS CLEAN AND THE ANIMALS ARE HEALTHY AND WELL KEPT. THE MEMBERSHIP PRICE IS VERY REASONABLE AND WELL WORTH IT. THE WORKERS ARE ALWAYS VERY PLEASANT AND HELPFUL. I WOULD RECOMMEND THE ZOO TO ANY FAMILY.

it has potential

I would not say it's the best zoo, there is a huge lack of shade for visitors and apparently for the animals as well. Not many workers in sight for directions and only volunteers were available at 1 spot for questions and they didn't have the answer to my question. It is not a user friendly zoo.
